Abstract

I will give overview of the science case for studies of resolved stellar populations beyond the Local Group with the E-ELT. I will present new simulated datacubes that investigate the required performances for spectroscopy of the calcium triplet, undertaken as part of the EAGLE Phase A design study for a near-IR multi-IFU instrument.
