NOAO
Large investment represented by ELTs and their AO systems calls for a careful optimization of their operation. Science return from various AO systems deployed at ELTs will be enhanced by using a clever strategy which takes advantage of favorable atmospheric conditions. To implement this, a flexible scheduling and an operational site monitor are needed. Requirements for an AO site monitor and its data products are outlined. Examples of using real-time site data in AO operation will be provided to quantify the gains of flexible strategy compared to classical time allocation and to simplistic queue-scheduling based only on seeing.
