Abstract

Most current ground based instruments make use of an adaptive optics system provided as part of the telescope facility for the correction of the wavefront to enhance the performance of the instrument. For EAGLE, a wide field, multi-object Integral Field Unit Spectrograph, the adaptive optics will be part of the instrument. A description of a novel systems approach for the design and development of the integrated instrument will be given. We will also illustrate how the various models developed are used to derive the detail instrument requirements, and more specifically those of the adaptive optics components. We will also assess the impact of the adaptive optics system requirements on the rest of the instrument.
